I have always been an avid exerciser since I was quite young. I grew up with a Mom that got up at 5AM, went to the gym, worked out, and returned home just after 6AM to get my sister and I up and ready for school. I was always so impressed by that and started to workout on a regular basis starting at around the age of 14. The first exercise video I bought was, wait for it… Alyssa Milano’s Teen Steam, I’m not kidding. For years, I continued working out from home with different exercise videos, as well as take umpteen dance classes, and when I went to a gym it was always the YMCA to go swimming.
When I moved to New York in 2000, there was no way I could afford any gym membership, so once again I was working out at home. Until about a year and a half later, when I met my husband (then boyfriend), and I was making good money, he encouraged me to join a gym and for close to a decade I went to the gym three to four times a week. Then last year when we made the bold decision to move to Brazil and I was checking out gym memberships, you can’t imagine how expensive they were. So, I had to resort to running and maybe doing some push-ups and sit-ups at home. Then one day when I was looking up diet and exercise tips, I came across Bodyrock.tv and since then I have been totally hooked.
Bodyrock.tv was started by Zuzana and her husband Freddy. Zuzana does all the workouts and Freddy does the filming (although he does do the workouts after he has finished filming). Zuzana is incredible, both in creating these amazing workouts, which take usually no more than 12-20 minutes, and in how she looks. Their tagline for the site is “The Home Workout Movement” and that is absolutely what it is. All you need is 15 minutes, a timer, sandbag, dip-station, pull-up bar, skipping rope, and an exercise mat, that’s it! I actually only use an exercise mat, skipping rope, and two free weights at 10KG or 25 pounds each. I have been doing Zuzana’s workouts for about six months and even though I don’t have the other pieces of equipment, I modify her workouts so it makes sense and I get a great workout.
In terms of the kind of following Bodyrock.tv gets, Zuzana’s Youtube videos generate anywhere from 100,000, to half a million, to even over a million views each. Some of her videos have even received over ten million views! You take one look at her and that’s motivation enough. She also has a whole section about diet. So you can follow the current diet plan she is on, or make any one of her delicious and simple recipes, and she of course started a cheat day, where her and Freddy have fun eating all the foods they avoid for the week like pumpkin pie and hamburgers.
One of the things Zuzana and Freddy added to their site, is profiling all the different people (as they call them Bodyrockers) that follow the workouts. This clearly shows you the global reach Bodyrock TV has with people from USA, to Canada, to Portugal, and even Nigeria. Thanks to Zuzana, there is now no excuse not to workout, especially when you don’t have to go far, you don’t have to pay for a membership, and you don’t have to sacrifice a lot of time. It’s never been a better time to get off the couch and workout.
